Ásgeir - Dýrð Í Dauðaþögn

Ásgeir's debut album Dýrð Í Dauðaþögn, produced by Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson, immediately recalls the heavenly vocals of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the light, electronic touch of British glitch pop sensation James Blake. His Icelandic lyrics, however, make for an easy distinction, and to non-Icelandic speakers sound as poetic as they really are. The songs are light and airy, inset with Ásgeir's distinctive melancholic voice. Their vibrancy elevates them way beyond the folktronica tag.

In November 2012 the album received 6 nominations for the Icelandic Music Awards; Best Album, Best Song (Leyndarmal), Best Best Male Vocalist, Best Songwriter, Best Producer and Best Lyricist. In January 2014, the English version of Dýrð Í Dauðaþögn was released as 'In The Silence' with lyrics translated by American musician John Grant.
